NY based street artist Swoon linked with the Los Angeles arm of Superchief Gallery to present Swoon’s Pearly’s Beauty Shop.
The art exhibition, live auction, and party was put together to benefit The Heliotrope Foundation in support of their mission to support those bouncing back from and rebuilding from incidents of natural disaster, social crisis, and economic devastation.
Swoon’s notoriety brought together a literal murderer’s row of artists on the scene. Featuring work from folks such as John Felix Arnold III, Swizz Beats, Shepard Fairey (who also DJ’d), RETNA, Dabys Myla, and others, the curation was such that the folks from Juxtapoz and Hi Fructose had to show face.
The Beauty Shop brought a whimsical and lighthearted approached to the normal doldrums of gallery auctions and fundraising. Part exhibition, part auction, part dance party, and part beauty salon, Pearly’s turned the norm of gallery showings on its head. Only through the prism of Swoon’s eye could Beauty Shop bring the experience (as our friends at BiddingForGood puts it) of your nails being done by a painter, your hair being done by a sculptor, and your makeup being done by a conceptual artist be something that worthwhile.
Good stuff, all around.
If you missed out, peep the scene below… and even better… check out the online auction that is open until May 31st!
