Tom Fec aka Tobacco has made a name for himself as the artiste du jour for the likes of Trent Reznor, who had Tobacco open recent Nine Inch Nails shows, Beck, Anti Pop Consortium, and a slew of beat artists and musicians that dot the radars of anyone with an inkling towards (good) music.
Today’s release of new material seen below in the track Eye Punch, also marks the release of Ripe and Majestic, a collection of unreleased material and instrumental rarities.

Ripe and Majestic as a project is a celebration of Fec’s reputation and aural work that finds its roots in his time as the frontman of Psych-Rock mavens Black Moth Super Rainbow pushed ever forward by the psychedelia of drugged out Moog’s and synth pads.
There is a sense of familiarity for some of the tracks here as some are drawn and expanded versions of his remix work for artists and tracks such as Piss Vader originally used in the remix for Panic Shopper by Restiform Bodies (and my initial introduction to Fec’s work) and more recent affairs such Sassy Ministries originally used by Beans in Cemetery Wind. The latter track of which shows some of his maturation and historical love for music — the track harkens back to a Ramo/Beat Street/Herbie Hancock sound from the early 80’s while maintaining a future forward sensibility for today’s synth heads. The collection as a whole sees Fec like a sonic Cobra Commander being introduced to the spores of Cobra-La and thus filtering himself and expanding upon rare work while inflecting touches of new.
All in all this is a very solid effort… for fans of Fec and his work, it’s a must listen… for those that are just being introduced… (especially the grown up adults who grew up to the Adult Swim beats)… hold your breath, spark that joint, watch that dose and dive into the sonic deep end.
