Far from strangers to Cashmere Cat and his brand of production, we were first introduced to his sound years back when his remix of Miguel’s Do You hit the beat scene and events hard over 4 years ago. (Fun fact, it’s playing right now as this piece is being put together.)
Flash forward to a few weeks ago and the alter ego of Norwegian Magnus August Høiberg has become one of the most sought after global producers of his generation. We called called 4 years ago that his knack for genre-bending beat production while deftly maintaining his own brand of rhythmic style would propel him to stardom, and we are glad to have been right about this one.
While 2016 was thought to be a banner year for the producer with his release of Throw Myself A Party featuring 2 Chainz, Tory Lanez, and Starrah as well as a radio chart peaking turn on the aforementioned Lanez’s LUV, 2017 has pushed his name farther into the conversation of keystone producers of the current radio cycle. His debut album release 9 (After Coachella), dropped recently with the lead single, Wild Love, featuring none other than The Weekend and Francis and the Lights. If that isn’t enough to convince you of Cashmere Cat’s future pedigree, then we’d be hard pressed to find a way to convince you.
9 is essential listening for both beat genre fans and general music fans alike. It has been on constant rotation office-side, and there hasn’t been a spot we’ve frequented by our teams in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Austin where an aural glimpse of the album hasn’t been had.
Transcending the conventions of typical urban pop, he has created a genre unto himself and with this release has established himself as true force. Give the album a listen and peep his tour dates below:
