Riot Fest 2024: Coming Home to Douglass Park.
Riot Fest is returning to its roots in Douglass Park, Chicago, from September 20-22, 2024. The iconic independent music festival, known for its eclectic lineup and strong community ties, is coming back home with renewed energy and purpose.
“If there was no Chicago, there’d be no Riot Fest,” says Michael “Riot Mike” Petryshyn, founder of Riot Fest. Reflecting on the festival’s origins, Petryshyn added, “It grew out of an independent music community where one would be able to see Naked Raygun, Smashing Pumpkins, or Rise Against on a random Saturday night, and you’d still have enough time to go catch a late-night set at Legends.”
This year’s return to Douglass Park is more than just a homecoming. It’s a reaffirmation of the festival’s commitment to Chicago, its fans, and the communities that have supported it over the past 19 years. Riot Fest has always been more than just a music festival—it’s a cultural movement deeply intertwined with the fabric of Chicago.
To celebrate the return, Riot Fest is offering fans who have already purchased tickets (or are about to) a chance to spread the love. Through the Tixr Rewards program, attendees can refer a friend who’ll receive 20% off their ticket, with the original purchaser also enjoying the same discount. This offer is valid until August 31st, and rewards will be processed within a few days after the festival.
A Message from the Riot Fest Team
In a statement to the “Riot Fam,” the Riot Fest team expressed their excitement about returning to Douglass Park, driven by the overwhelming support of the North Lawndale community, the City of Chicago, and their fans. As the largest independent music festival in the U.S., Riot Fest is proud of its roots and its ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and community engagement.
“As we continue to build a long-term partnership with the City of Chicago, we remain focused on our shared vision of stability and growth in the neighborhood we call home,” the statement reads. The Riot Fest team extended their gratitude to Mayor Johnson, Alderwoman Scott, the Chicago Park District, and the North Lawndale and Little Village communities for their unwavering support.
Beyond the music, Riot Fest’s “Beyond the Fest” program continues to make a positive impact on the local community. From park cleanups to job fairs and community ticket registrations, Riot Fest is committed to making a difference. Upcoming events include community hiring on August 17, community ticket registrations, and more. The festival will also feature a “Community Corner” during the event, providing a space for local vendors and organizations to connect with attendees.
